Greek Man Who Owes 10,000,000 Euros to State Lives in Mountain Hut

A Greek living in Roukani, a father of many children and one of the ‘big fish’ owing large amounts in unpaid taxes, ironically lives in a mountain hut.
The 65-year-old man, Stelios Parasyris, is not the typical debtor who lives in luxury and refuses to pay the millions he owes to the state.
Stelios collected revenue of 30,000,000 drachmas using fake tariff certificates but after a state inspection, a fine of 4.581.150,56 Euros has been imposed on him, and since then he lives sparingly and his debt is rapidly rising.
In all cases, it is extremely difficult for the state to manage to obtain the amounts due from the big state debtors, because a specific procedure, which obliges them to pay the money, has not been provided. If the detained person owes taxes, a fast-track procedure is somewhat more flexible, but if they have not paid VAT, things are more stringent.
