Vodafone and Wind Hellas Close to Finalizing Merger

According to press reports, Vodafone and Wind Hellas are close to finalizing their merger agreement. According to the same sources, the announcements may take place between now and February 9th, when Vodafone announces its quarterly results.
The same sources also indicate that the deal will be done through the exchange of paper at a 60:40 rate in favour of Vodafone, and an exit strategy will be formed for Wind Hellas’ shareholders. Nevertheless, the deal will need the clearance of EU’s competition authorities, something that may require at least 6 months.
It is estimated that if the European Union approves the deal between the two Greek companies, the industry of telecommunications in Greece will change completely.
The two companies that will remain, Vodafone and Cosmote, will be obliged to share Greek users of mobile phones, which amount to 15,000,000 people today.
