Greek Public Sector Owes Itself 20 Billion Euros

According to the financial data publicized by Deputy Finance Minister Filippos Sachinidis, maturities of the Greek Public Services and Organizations to the Greek state reached 20.5 billion Euros in 2011, in comparison to 22.4 billion Euros in 2010.
Fifteen billion Euros of these maturities belong to businesses that are either directly or indirectly controlled by the Greek government, while the rest of the 5 billion Euros concern bonds sold to the private sector under certain criteria.
According to the ministerial data, the biggest part of the unpaid maturities as recorded on December 31, 2011, belongs to OSE (railway transport Group), with an almost 8 billion Euro debt, while the Athens Metro owes the State 1.8 billion Euros and PPC another 1.7 billion Euros.
