Cargo ship “Common Venture” is one of the many Greek ships built in China but travelling under the Greek flag.
The ship belongs to Common Progress Co. and is currently anchored at the city port of Thessaloniki after having sailed off the Dalian shipyards of China and passed by Indonesia and Singapore. Its next stop is Canakkale, Turkey.
“Common Venture” is a 190m x 32m long cargo ship, of dwt 57000t capacity, with five kits, designed to carry all products except liquids and be able to pass the Panama Canal.
Building the “Common Venture” in the shipyard lasted only a year, and one of the supervisors in the construction processes was her mechanical engineer, Mr. George Foteinopoulos, who has spent many years travelling the seas of the world.
The majority of the electronic equipment of the ship comes from Japan or South Korea, two cities that are considered to be the leaders in electronic systems.
The captain of the Greek-flagged ship is Mr. Antonis Zarouchliotis, who expressed his pride over being the master of a ship that travels around the world with the Greek flag.
“The Greek cargo fleet consists of 3,000 ships to date, with only 700 of them travelling under the Greek flag” points out Mr. Zarouchliotis.
