Εuropean Translation Centre EKEMEL Shuts Down

According to the decision of its general assembly, EKEMEL, the European Translation Centre – Literature and Human Sciences in Greece, will shut down after having covered for the past few years a wide series of activities relating to translation studies.
From the translation awards to the conferences and the cooperation projects with universities and organizations abroad, EKEMEL was a meeting point for all professional translators. “However, the dynamics of translation in Greece do not depend on the future of a single organization” commented Mrs. Eleni Zerva, president of EKEMEL.
“There are many organizations that meet or will meet the same fate as EKEMEL. We live in a country now where theatre, constant training and seminars are deemed as a luxury we cannot afford. By this we wouldn’t want in any way to undermine the harsh times we are going through” wrote Mrs. Zerva in her letter to the supporters of EKEMEL’s work.
The Centre will survive through its journal “Apiliotis”, while its already organized and announced activities will still take place.
