Τhree Public Workers Commit Suicide Within Fortnight

Α new suicide attempt was announced Wednesday by the president of POE-OTA (Federation of workers of all specialisations in the Municipalities and local communities of Greece), Themis Balasopoulos.
According to Balasopoulos, two workers in the Municipality of Athens (one of them employed in the waste treatment service) and another one working in the Municipality of Sykeon committed suicide within the past fortnight.
A fourth man has also tried to put an end to his life because of the ever worsening economic situation plaguing Greece and the harsh austerity measures imposed by the government. The desperate action of the man did not cost his life but both of his feet.
According to Balasopoulos, the situation experienced on a daily basis by the workers in the municipalities of the country is terrible, especially after the recent abolition of relating bodies and organisms, the drastic cuts in their salaries and the abolition of the basic rights to healthcare.
