Pan-Cypriot Fundraiser for the Poor Students of Greece

A pan-Cypriot fundraiser is planned to take place on February 21, in all private and public schools of the Republic of Cyprus, aiming at financially supporting the poor students of debt-hit Greece.
The initiative was introduced Tuesday during the meeting of the Parliamentary Education Committee by the president of the Committee and ‘Democratic Alert’ MP, Nikos Tornaritis.
The Cypriot Ministry of Education, which decided to adopt the proposal of Tornaritis, expresses in its relative announcement its certainty that “all students, teachers and parents will respond to this call in support of the plagued people of Greece and especially its children”.
It was only recently that another similar initiative, ‘Love Packages’, was organized in Cyprus, aiming at offering any possible help to the people in need in Greece.
Mr. Tornaritis noted that Greece is going through some particularly harsh times. “It is well known that the Greek people and its government have educated many generations of the Cypriot people for free. So now, it is our duty to give what we have left to Greece and help the country get back on its feet” added Mr. Tornaritis.
Representatives from the educational organizations OELMEK, POED and OLTEK, as well as parents’ organizations have also announced their total support of the fundraiser idea.
