100 Years Since the Birth of Nikiforos Vrettakos

On January 1st, 2012, 100 years had elapsed since the birth of the great Laconian poet Nikiforos Vrettakos, the poet of love, peace and humanism.
Nikiforos Vrettakos published more than 20 collections of poetry, several novels and numerous other erudite dissertations, and came to be acclaimed as one of the most versatile poets of his generation. In all of his works his lyrical euphoria coupled with poetic sensitivity attest to the sensitivity of his soul, his tenderness and his boundless humanism.
A series of events are being organized around Greece by the National Book Centre of Greece to honor the Greek poet Nikiforos Vrettakos, in collaboration with the Sparta Public Library, the Benaki Museum and the Hellenic Authors Society.
Moreover, within the framework of World Poetry Day on the 21st of March, a campaign will be launched in honor of the Greek poet with posters on the means of transport, presenting the work of Vrettakos.
Furthermore, the National Book Centre of Greece is going to construct a website for the Greek poet in order to promote his work and life, while exhibitions of the work of Vrettakos will be presented in schools and libraries in Greece.
