President of the Greek Republic, Karolos Papoulias, received on Thursday the former French Minister of Culture and Education, Jack Lang, at the Presidential Megaron in Athens.
The two men discussed their ideas for an hour, while they made special reference to their common and late friend, Melina Merkouri.
The French politician actually described the deceased Greek Minister of Culture, Merkouri, as the symbol of eternal and beautiful Greece. “If she were today here with us, she would find the right words to say. She would tell us all: “Be strong. We will fight and make it through the hardships” said Mr. Lang.
The French Minister also noticed that after having read Merkouri’s book “I was born Greek”, he strongly believes the late Merkouri would never approve a plan that would put Greece under foreign surveillance.
“However, I am sure the Greek people and authorities will make it through in the end” concluded Mr. Lang, who informed the Greek President on the ‘whereabouts’ of Europe nowadays.
