Papademos Appoints New Development Minister

Greek Prime Minister Lucas Papademos appointed Tuesday a new head to the Development Ministry, in changes prompted by the recent resignation of a minister in charge of Greece’s police who is now running for the leadership of the socialist party.
Anna Diamantopoulou, a former European Union commissioner, will be shifted to the Development Ministry from the Education Ministry, which she has been in charge of since October 2009. The education portfolio will be handed to Giorgos Babiniotis.
Michalis Chrisochoidis will be put in charge of Greece’s Citizen Protection Ministry, which oversees the country’s security forces–police and the coast guard–as well as the fire brigade.
The new ministers will be sworn in Wednesday.
