Over 6,500 Athletes to Run the 7th International Marathon of Thessaloniki

Everything is ready for the 7th International “Alexander the Great” Marathon to commence this Sunday in Thessaloniki. The places available in both the marathon and the 10km and 5km distances have all been filled. A new record has been reached this year with participation exceeding 6,500 athletes from 30 different countries around the world.
In the official press conference-presentation of organizers, the vice president of the Marathon’s executive committee and president of SEGAS Thessaloniki-Chalkidiki, Dimitrios Gakis, commented on the spirit of the marathon and noted that this year’s event will certainly be granted with success. “We thank everyone who has cooperated for the successful organization of the ‘Alexander the Great Marathon’. The spirit of the marathon presents a healthy way of life in a country where child obesity rates are the highest in Europe. Our aim is not only to organize a marathon race but also introduce a new way of life that will replace the TV remote control” added Mr. Gakis.
“If there was no participation deadline, applications would have exceeded all expectations”, pointed out among others the secretary of the executive committee, Yannis Podiotis.
