Boat Routes Suspended on Great Tuesday and Wednesday Due to Port Workers' Strike

Port workers decided to “hit back” during Easter vacation days and according to a decision they made earlier on Monday, they announced they are going on a 48-hour strike on Great Tuesday and Wednesday.
Their union reportedly speaks of continuous mobilizations, a fact that might cause further turmoil in the coming days.
The workers want all amendments concerning the Oikos Naftou Marine Insurance Fund, the lump-sum benefits and other urgent issues to be re-examined after the coming elections.
Nevertheless, for one more time the “victims” of these strikes will be the citizens, the tourists and the relevant tourist and ship businesses; not the government.
Also, the economic status of all the islands expecting to host Easter vacationers will also be affected. Islanders are expected to oppose the workers’ move and are saying they are being treated as hostages of the syndicates’ and workers’ claims.
The economic damage that is expected as a result of the planned strikes will harm the marine companies that are craving financial relief this Easter season. The islands that are expecting tourists during the Great week are going to respond badly to strikers who will hinder their tourism-related activities.
The port workers’ union released an announcement according to which they ask for certain law amendments to be withdrawn or re-examined.
