German Treasure Found in the Bank of Greece

German Marks amounting to 14,334,000 euros were found in the Bank of Greece, a treasure forgotten for ages.
57 bags full of German notes have been mistakenly kept in the Bank of Greece. No employee, or even the Head of the Bank, were aware of the bags’ value all these years.
As it seems, during the German occupation of Greece, this amount of money was left behind. The reason might have been that Germans were forced to leave Greece quickly, without being able to carry such a load back home.
Greek Minister of Finance Filippos Sachinidis asked for the establishment of a corresponding committee to give an expert opinion of the situation.
The official announcement of the Ministry referred to “the probability of not saving the 57 bags or even destroying them, as their value is only historical.”
Inofficially, though, some coin collectors told the Greek media, that a Mark dated from the German Occupation costs about 50 euros each.
