Former Minister Petros Efthimiou Verbally Attacked by Right-Wing Extremists

Petros Efthimiou reports he was verbally attacked in Maroussi, Athens. During a meeting with residents in the center of the district, the PASOK MP and former Minister of Education became the target of a group of youngsters who verbally attacked him and threatened him with jeering.
According to him, the “attackers” are members of Golden Dawn (Chrisi Avgi), the right-wing extremist party that is expected to become one of the parliament’s parties. Efthimiou immediately informed PASOK leader Evangelos Venizelos.
A statement by PASOK spokesman Fofi Gennimata on the attack of alleged Golden Dawn members to MP Petros Efthimiou was released:
“Forty five years after the enforcement of a coup d’etat by the colonels, Golden Dawn members chose April 21 to exert violence during an event of PASOK candidate Petros Efthimiou.
The audacity of Golden Dawn was reinforced by the spreading conspiracy theories and the brave words of the denial forces. We call on all political forces to condemn such shameful incidents, and create together a front to protect the democratic institutions. Tolerance too can hatch the egg of the snake. We do not want to see Nazi greetings in the Greek parliament, we don’t want to see the reward of those who believe in violence and take law into their own hands. We must resist all together.”
Venizelos posted the following message on Twitter: “50 Golden Dawn members attacked Petros Efthimiou today in Maroussi. Say NO to fascism which threatens to invade the Parlaiment.”
