Rare Historic Cypriot Poster From 1901 to be Auctioned

A rare poster that was created for Cyprus in the first Panhellenic Games in Zapio back in 1901 is about to be sold in auction by AhZmartAuctions House in collaboration with Petros Vergis Auction House on May 8.
The historically valuable multicolored poster was created in the known lithographic printing center of G. Kohlmann. It was designed and distributed in Athens in April 1901, when – on the occasion of the first Panhellenic Games – a Cypriot exhibition was organized aimed at the national awakening and the strengthening of bilateral relations between metropolitan Greece and Cyprus.
Inspirer and organizer of the exhibition was Georgios S. Frangoudis (1869-1939), President of the Patriotic Association, according to Fileleftheros newspaper. He studied Law in Athens and Political Sciences in Paris. He was a well-known politician, academic professor, writer and co-founder of the Panteion University in Athens, of which he was the first director.
The second most important item to be sold in the coming auction on May 8 is the sculpture “The Mother of Cyprus” (dated back in 1963 and created by Greek artist Theodoros Vasiliou), which is dedicated to Cypriot mothers.
The auction includes 101 painting and sculpture works of Greek and Cypriot artists that are nowadays active in Greece and Cyprus.
Among the 80 artists whose works are to be sold in the auction are the following eminent Greeks: Vasiliou, Gaitis, Paniaras, Kokkinidis, Fasianos, Mytaras, Samios, Sperantzas, Pantaleon and Geros, as well as Cypriots Ladommatos, Ikonomou, Charalampidis, Chatzisotiriou, Dikeos, Votsis, Herotokritos, Kotsonis and Ioakim.
