European Parliament President Visits Greece

European Parliament President Martin Schulz visited Athens to meet with political figures of the country.
Schulz planned to visit the Greek capital May 13-14 but cancelled it. Later, he stated he just postponed the visit but did not make clear the reason for the change.
Schulz has already visited the President of Greece, Karolos Papoulias, and is about to visit other political leaders. During his meeting with Papoulias, he commented, “We want to help Greece, not enslave it!”
In his opinion, which he may also make clear at his press conference today, is that Greece should adopt a development policy within the country but also within the EU, in order to provide employment opportunities. “Europe is not a community of austerity – Europe is a community of solidarity,” said Schulz.
This morning, he gave an interview from Athens to a Greek radio station. “Many people believe that it would be the end of a negative cycle, but for me it would be the beginning of an even more negative cycle,” suggesting that the Eurozone would be affected in a negative way should Greece exit.
“If Greece returned to single currency, its economy would collapse within days and Europe would be called on to provide Greece with more money than it does now to avoid the domino,” admitted the President of the European Parliament.
