Film Fest Opens in Athens With Tribute to John Cassavetes

A tribute to director John Cassavetes will be the curtain raiser at this year’s edition of the Tainiorama film festival, which is set to run for 42 days through June 27 at the Asty Cinema in Athens.
There will be 42 thematic units at this year’s festival and 126 films from all over the world, with three screenings taking place daily.
Tonight’s screenings will be the celebrated Greek-American indie filmmaker’s “Faces” (1968), “Opening Night” (1977) and “A Woman Under the Influence” (1974).
Tainiorama is dedicated exclusively to art-house cinema and this year will be featuring legendary films such as Orson Welles’s “Falstaff,” Lars von Trier’s “Europa,” Mario Monicelli’s “I soliti ignoti,” Guillermo del Toro’s “The Devil’s Backbone” and David Lynch’s “Lost Highway.”
Details of the films being shown at Tainiorama this year are available on the website: www.amafilms.gr.
