Self-Called "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus" to be Renamed

The Cabinet of Ministers of the self-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus has decided to rename the illegal state to Turkish Republic of Cyprus, according to a report by the Turkish-Cypriot daily Havadis. The decision was issued on May 23, and is followed by the pending issuance of new biometric passports that will allow the self-called TRNC to comply with the International Civil Aviation Organization standards.
According to an extensive report by Alitheia online, the Turkish-Cypriot newspaper published the ministerial decision in view of the upcoming Greek-Cypriot presidency in the EU from July 1. If the Cyprus Issue is not resolved by July 1, that is, before the presidency of the Republic of Cyprus in the EU, then TRNC will be renamed.
The ministerial decision aims at neutralizing the current UN Security Council Resolution, which underlines that the international community cannot recognize TRNC as an official state. The Turkish-Cypriot citizens will be identified as “Cypriot Turks” in their new passports, something which is expected to allow them to travel more easily in different European and Islamic countries, such as Pakistan.
The name “Turkish Republic of Cyprus” was used in the fifth Annan plan to describe Northern Cyprus. With this name, the Turkish side will also have the chance of becoming an observer in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
