Greece and China Celebrate 40 Years of Bilateral Relations

The Hellenic Republic and the People’s Republic of China celebrated the 40th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Greek diplomatic ties on June 5.
Several events were organized in both countries within the framework of this year’s bilateral anniversary, including a joint stamp collection to be issued by the Greek and Chinese post, Greek Cinema Week organized by the Greek Embassy in Beijing and the exhibition on the work and life of Socrates and Laozi.
On the occasion, the President of the Hellenic Republic Karolos Papoulias, caretaker PM of Greece Panayiotis Pikrammenos and Greek Foreign Minister Petros Molyviatis exchanged congratulatory messages with their Chinese counterparts, underlining the importance of strengthening the relations that have developed between the two countries through the years. Special notice was paid at the comprehensive strategic cooperation established between China and Greece since 2006.
Chinese President Hu Jintao, PM of the country Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi sent congratulatory notes to their Greek counterparts.
