Archbishop of Cyprus Pleads for Kirill of Moscow Support on Cyprus Issue

Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, called on Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all the Russians, who pays a visit to Cyprus to continue supporting the struggle of Cyprus the liberation of the occupied areas of Cyprus and restoration of human rights.
The primate of the Church of Cyprus said that Cypriot people expect now as in the past the support of the Russian Orthodox Church.
“From the depths of our soul we ask you to convey in a fervent way to your government and your people, the pain of our people, and the desire for domination of freedom, justice and restoration of human rights,“ he said.
He also pleads for the Patriarch of Moscow to continue to be an ambassador for the just demands of Cyprus, while praying for predominance of human rights and values of life in the island.
As he said, when other countries wanted to impose the Annan plan through the Security Council he had asked the Patriarch of Moscow for President Putin’s veto in the Security Council, something that he did.
Patriarch Kirill expressed sympathy for the Church of Cyprus and its people” in times of trials”.
As he said for 38 years the Orthodox Church of Russia suffer along with the Church of Cyprus and its people because of the violent partition of the island and the discriminations against Orthodox Christians in the occupied territories.
He added that he raises his voice for the respect of the holy heritage of Cyprus Orthodox church in the occupied areas and declared his readiness to discuss measures aimed at preserving the Christian presence in the wider region of Cyprus.
