British Tourist Dies in Parascending Accident on Zakynthos Island

A 42-year-old British tourist has been killed in an accident on Zakynthos near the shipwreck area (Navagio beach on Zante), according to reports.
The man, named Arthur Jake Simkins, appears to have been parascending when his parachute, which did not function properly, caught on a hillside.
Emergency services were unable to reach the man in time to avert his fatal fall. The irony was that firemen had been trying to save him for three hours and observed him alive, but unfortunately managed to reach him  too late. The rope broke and the hapless man who was on holiday with his pregnant girlfriend of seven months fell resulting in his death. Forty-two-year old Arthur passed away before ever reaching the local hospital.
To add to the irony, Simkins was an experienced base-jumper who had completed more than 40 solo jumps. As he dangled hundreds of meters above the rocks on the island, he was reported to have made calls from his mobile to reassure his partner, Anita, at a nearby hotel  that he was not badly hurt after hitting the cliff.
Mr Simkins was pronounced dead after his fall on Friday evening. His partner was taken to hospital suffering from shock, although she was discharged on Sunday and has since flown back to Britain.

The pair were reportedly hoping to get married following the birth of their child.
