21st Nafplion Festival Kicks Off Today at the Historical Peloponnesian City

The historic city of Nafplion in the Peloponnese is the place to be at the end of June. The annual NAFPLION FESTIVAL kicks off on June 22nd and promises lots of music all the way through to July 1st. Already in existence for twenty consecutive years and awarded as the best festival of its kind by the association of Music Critics of Greece, the Nafplion Festival gives a good reason to visit the area.
The Festival begins with a performance of its artistic director, the well-known pianist YIANNIS VAKARELIS, in its 20th consecutive year; it features a panorama of unique musical performances staged at some of the city’s major venues: VOULEFTIKON, the first Hellenic Parliament, AGHIOS YEORGIOS SQUARE, the courtyard of St. George’s church and FOUGARO (fully renovated ancient factory). NAFPLION FESTIVAL spreads its wings every year with more and more ambitious plans.
Artistic director JANIS VAKARELIS is adamant in his responsibility to continue this significant cultural event with the same zeal and sense of commitment every year. According to Yiannis Vakarelis “culture is the shortest and safest way to stir emotions and soften souls.” Internationally acclaimed personalities and ensembles from the music scene appear in this year’s concerts: Jean Louis Steyerman, Katharina Gross, Arta Arnicane, George Lazaridis, Bjarke Mogensen and many others.
