Cyprus: Five Arrested for 26 kg of Cannabis

Five people, two Greeks, two Cypriots and a Russian with a Greek passport, were apprehended for eight days yesterday by Larnaca district court in connection with the alleged importation of drugs, and possession as such.
They were arrested on Thursday afternoon after police discovered one of the suspects carrying 26 kilos of cannabis in a suitcase.
According to drugs squad YKAN deputy commander Panicos Stavrou, officers suspected a number of people of importing drugs and placed them under surveillance. Stavrou said one of the men arrested arrived on a flight from Greece on Thursday and was seen talking to two other people. They then got into two separate taxis and the two people he was talking to headed to one hotel and he, holding a small suitcase, to another.
All three were then seen leaving their respective hotels to meet up in Larnaca with a fourth person. Then they met up with a fifth person, also with a suitcase and headed down to Europe Square near the seafront.
Police then pounced on them and discovered 26 kilos of cannabis in one of the suitcases. All four were arrested on the spot. A search was conducted on the property of the fifth suspect revealing 1.5 grammes of dry marijuana.
“In the property search we found and seized nylon and paper used for drug packaging, and a €100 note that is believed to be fake,” said police.
Another two €100 notes were also found on the property.
Police e said they would extend their investigations to Greece.
