After Reactions, Greek Singer Angela Dimitriou Refuses to Sing in Turkish-Occupied Cyprus

Some days ago, Greek media reported that a Lebanese ship owner, friend of popular Greek singer Angela Dimitriou, asked her to sing at his private birthday party for almost 150 guests. The party is planned to take place this Saturday at a casino situated in the Turkish-occupied part of Cyprus and as a result, this announcement has stirred immediate reactions in both Cyprus and Greece.
At first, Greek singer told the ANT1 TV channel that “music has no borders” making no further comment and consequently, many concluded that she would accept the invitation. However, a day later she gave an interview to many Greek media adding that she felt irritated by the fact that journalists had reported on this event in a negative way. “All year round, people from Turkish-occupied Cyprus call me to organize concerts there, but I have never agreed,” replied Angela Dimitriou a.k.a. “Lady” and continued that some of her “accusers visit this part of Cyprus for vacation or shopping,” suggesting that in contrast to them, she has never supported this part of Cyprus.
In her personal profile on Facebook, she wrote that the media are trying to mislead people in these times when Cyprus is facing many financial problems.
Angela Dimitriou is a famous singer who appears very often in media reports. She has launched some albums in Turkey in addition to those launched in Greece. Angela remains one of Greek press’s most beloved VIPs since she, despite her Greek origin, misuses many Greek words and phrases.
