Renowned Greek Actor and Theatre Director Thymios Karakatsanis Passes Away

Thymios Karakatsanis, one of Greece’s most beloved actors and directors of ancient Greek plays, died on Saturday, June 30th at the age of 72. The famous actor had for years faced complications brought on by diabetes, which had worsened lately. His funeral will be held on Monday, July 9th, at 11.30am at the Peania cemetery, Attica.
Thymios Karakatsanis was born on December 8, 1940 in Tampouria region, Pireaus. He studied at the Greek Art Theatre Karolos Koun. Since 1960, he was working as a theater actor.
Thymios himself has participated in many ancient plays including “The Clouds” and “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes. His name always attracted huge crowds to the theater. He was also considered one of the greatest theater directors of Greece.
His interviews did not cease to contain many surprises. His witty comments about life in modern Greece never failed to provoke strong reactions.
