A big fire that has started around noon today in Kerame village close to Plakia in Rethymnon is threatening houses and is destroying crops, grassland and forest vegetation. According to the fire department, the settlement of Agallianos has escaped danger. Around five in the afternoon today, the villagers were called to abandon their houses, as the ongoing fire was approaching the village, but luckily, no houses or cottages have been destroyed for the time being.
According to Flashnews.gr, numerous fire engines have approached in three different fire fronts and they are continually increasing as the hours pass by. The total fire extinguishing force battling the flames consists of 20 fire engines, 43 firemen, four municipality aquifers, two dismounted forces, as well as one fire extinguishing helicopter.
However, in the areas, strong storming winds have immobilized the fire extinguishing helicopter, making the efforts of the firemen extremely difficult.
