Survey Says! Greeks Prefer Goods "Made in Greece"

At least one-third of Greeks say they prefer domestic goods, declaring it to be a “patriotic” attitude, according to a study jointly conducted by Athens Economy University and Western Greece University. Many said they were bought goods made in Greece even if they were more expensive, thinking this would support the local economy and help cut the country’s unemployment rate. Some 13% of participants said they were driven to buy domestic goods in the last six months, but the rate is 23% over the last year.
The “Made in Greece” label has a magical effect, according to data from a survey conducted by the Turkish Anatolia news agency. Domestic dairy products, fruits and vegetables received the highest support, some 91%, followed by floured products, beverages, alcoholic drinks, processed and frozen food, with more Greeks believing it’s better to buy Fix, Mythos, Alpha, Pils Hellas and other Greek beers than foreign beers.
