PAOK and Rapid Hit With Suspended Bans

PAOK and Austrians Rapid Vienna were sanctioned by UEFA Tuesday following crowd trouble at their Europa League play-off first leg last week.
Both clubs were given suspended bans for the current competition and the next UEFA competition for which they qualify in the next five years.
The bans are suspended for probationary periods of three years, the disciplinary committee of European football’s organizing body said.
PAOK were further ordered to play their next three UEFA competition home matches behind closed doors, and the club fined 150,000 euros.
Rapid were fined 75,000 euros and told they must play their next UEFA competition home game behind closed doors.
However UEFA said the punishment did not apply to the Europa League play-off second leg between the two sides in Vienna on Thursday. PAOK hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg.
Following crowd disturbances at the match in Saloniki Thursday, UEFA, based in Nyon, Switzerland, charged PAOK with “the improper conduct of supporters – crowd disturbances, pitch invasion, setting off and throwing of missiles and fireworks – and insufficient organization.”
Rapid Wien were charged with “improper conduct of supporters – crowd disturbances and setting off and throwing of fireworks and missiles.”
UEFA said the two clubs had the right to lodge appeals against the rulings.
