Spanish Tourist Disappears on Skiathos Island

A 55-year-old Spanish-Belgian national, and resident of Brussels, is missing from the Greek island of Skiathos. José Maria Benito Sánchez went out for a walk around 1 p.m. on Aug. 22 in the area of Aghia Paraskevi, where he was staying on holiday with his family and friends, but failed to return.
He left without a hat nor his sunglasses, unprepared for a long walk. Authorities did not say if they know what happened to him. The police and the Fire Brigade and a sniffer dog searched the surroundings intensively for the first three days after he vanished. A private helicopter was also hired to join in the search.
He is suffering from heart and blood pressure problems and he does not have his necessary medication on him. When he disappeared, Sánchez was wearing Bermuda shorts, a light blue short-sleeved shirt and sandals. He is of medium height, well-built and has dark hair and a grey beard.
Police are asking if anyone has any information to notify them. Contacts: His wife, Enma Alvarez, may be reached in Brussels on +32-2-346-37-04/+32-478-578-188. His sister Milagros Benito may be reached in Madrid on +34-479-4129/+34-616-883257
