In Elassona, Larissa, where Greek feta cheese is a treasured local production, local authorities are trying to promote it with a festival to show off the commodity that people love to put on salads, in omelets and other recipes where its briny taste is coveted.
One of the most important annual events, the feta fiesta, under the aegis of the Ministry of rural development and food, has its own website (www.giortifetas.gr) and hopes to attract many visitors and not just residents who already know about its irresistible taste and allure.
The festival is from Sept. 22-24 and numerous events will take places dedicated to cheese trials, artistic events and games. A meeting will also take place with the cooperation of university professors and local producers.
