Smaragdis' Film God Loves Caviar Opens in Athens

Yiannis Smaragdis’ new film God Loves Caviar had its first official premiere at the Concert Hall of Athens on Oct. 1, attended by many Greek artists who enjoyed the epic production.
The full cast was there, including protagonist Sebastian Koch, Evgeny Stychkin, Olga Stulutova and other major Greek actors who participated in the film.
Lakis Lazopoulos, Christofors Papakaliatis, Marissa Triantafyllidou, Akis Sakelariou, Pavlos Kontogiannidis and Alexandros Mylonas were all part of Smaragdis’ cast and attended the glamorous premiere. Award-winning musician Minos Matsas, who also composed the soundtrack of the film, was also present.
Director Smaragdis thanked his friends and especially his wife for trusting in him and his work, while he also wished that the film would become a present of innocence and hope for the audience.
Τhe film follows the life and adventures of national benefactor and patriot Ioannis Varvakis from his birthplace in the small island of Psara to the courtyard of Cathrine the Great, and from the pirate ships of the Aegean to the Russian wilderness and back to the Greek Revolution of 1821.
Political games, pirates, conspiracies of the powerful of the time, family dramas, love, friendship, betrayal and the discovery and exploitation of caviar from Varvakis  interwine and reflect the novel-like life led by this emblematic Greek figure.
