Germany Says Merkel Didn’t Discuss War Reparations W/Samaras

The German government said on Friday that Chancellor Angela Merkel and Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras did not discuss possible reparations for Nazi crimes in Greece during World War II.
“That was not a topic,” spokesman Steffen Seibert said at a regular government press conference here. “The federal government did not officially receive such claims from the Greek government.”
Asked about calls by IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde to give Greece two years more time to meet its fiscal goals under the country’s bailout program, Seibert said Germany’s position remains that Greece needs to operate under the current timetable.
Any decisions on the further course of the Greek reform program can be made only once the troika – the EU Commission, the ECB and the IMF – have released their report on Greece, he said.
Regarding the release date of the report, the troika will have in mind that Greece runs out of money by-end November, Seibert said. The EU and IMF have delayed the payment of the next E31.5 billion aid tranche for Greece until the report is released.
