Greece To Allow Sale of Expired Food

Greece reportedly will allow the sale of expired foods in supermarkets and retail stores at one-third of their original price. The Ministry of Development has instituted a regulation for distribution and trade of products concerning the disposal of food that has expired without clarifying how long past the date they could still be on shelves, but only for foodstuffs that aren’t perishable.
The regulation would not allow to restaurants and other eateries. It states that there must be a sign designating the products as past their consumption date. Sales managers would be responsible for monitoring the expired foods and requires they be sold at a lower price. It forbids changing the expiry date already listed on the goods.
Goods which list only a day and month expiry date on the package could only be sold for one week past their original expiry date and the final date must clearly be listed in the store. Those which list the month and year can be sold for an additional month. If there is a product with only the year as expiry date, it could still be sold for and additional three months.
