Palestinian Riyad al-Malki Visits Greece

Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Malki, in a visit to Athens, thanked Greece and stressed that his people will not accept any less rights than those already earned by the people of the Arab spring.
Greek Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos stressed that Greece’s position was “towards the creation of an independent and viable Palestinian state that could safely and peacefully coexist with Israel.”
He added his concern over stagnation in the peace process and he pointed out that the solution of the Palestinian issue will serve more as a catalyst in a period of great instability and uncertainty, paving the way for a better cooperation within the region.
Avramopoulos said the Palestinian issue  is a priority for Greek foreign policy, while also highlighting ties with Palestine, a long-time friend of the Greek people. Malki stated that the request submitted to the UN by the government for Palestine’s recognition as a non-member state aims in “restoring justice and reviving the peace process.” He said he believed that “Greece will stand right beside us.”
