Greece Readies Case for Nazi Damages

89842-germanikes_apozimioseisjpg-145x145Greek Alternate Finance Minister Staikouras Christos has granted more time to the working group researching how much Greece should demand in compensation from Germany for damages from World War II, which is now expected to be ready by the end of March, 2013.
The Bank of Greece has estimated that the amount owed is 165 billion euros, or $217.5 billion. The amounts are divided into two categories, a 1938 loan today worth 54 billion euros ($71 billion) without interest, and damage to infrastructure, which in today’s valuation would be some 108.43 billion, or $142.71 billion without interest.
Some Greek political leaders are insisting that Germany must pay more for damages Greece suffered during World War II during the Nazi occupation, as well as for massacres and other atrocities.
