Samaras: No Cabinet Shakeup, Early Vote

Samaras_metraGreek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has denied once again, in no uncertain terms, that a government reshuffle may be brought in or early elections held, according to an interview published in Parapolitica. Samaras said that ”for the general good, I urge that there be no talk of either of these two possibilities – that of a government reshuffle and early elections – for a long time. The country must be governed in a correct manner.”
There had been speculation that once the recent new series of rescue loans from international lenders was approved that the Premier might revise his administration and reward his coalition partners, the PASOK Socialists and Democratic Left, with ministerial positions in return for their unrelenting support for more pay cuts, tax hikes and slashed pensions.
He added in reference to the possibility that the government might have to bring in additional austerity measures that, “If all the measures agreed (with the EU, ECB and IMF troika) are implemented, especially structural reforms, there will be no need of additional austerity measures.”
As concerns the new fiscal system considered by international creditors of primary importance for the economic bailout of Greece, Samaras said that it will be implemented as soon as possible after it goes to the Parliament that his coalition government controls.
