SYRIZA Talks with Brazilian President

Tsipras_RousseffLeaders of the Radical Left Coalition (SYRIZA) held a meeting with Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, in which they discussed the global economic crisis, the Greek party reported. SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras thanked Rousseff for Brazil’s support of international institutions, and praised the government’s work to strengthen social cohesion, democratic development and the fight against poverty.
Tsipras said that Brazil and emerging countries can play a key role in curbing lobal austerity policies, which he said are destructive and ineffective and threaten the entire global economy. He said he believes that Greeks, following the example of the Latin American people, will one day be rid of its international lenders and that SYRIZA will overthrow the agreements Greece has with them.
After the meeting, Tsipras read a message from Rousseff to Greek citizens condemning austerity policies they said are not useful to overcome the crisis, and they asked for social cohesion, growth and redistribution of wealth.
The Greek delegation met for four days with leaders of the ruling Workers Party, the Communist Party, the Workers Central Union, the Landless Movement, among others, as well as with former President Lula Da Silva and ministers of Defense, Foreign Affairs and the President of the Brazilian Parliament.
