The Arabic channel Al Jazeera, visited Zacharo to see how the community reacted to the massive wildfires that hit southern Greece in 2007 which devastated forests, olive groves and farmland.
An estimated three percent of the country’s surface area was scorched and hundreds of houses and buildings were destroyed.
Al Jazeera’s John Psaropoulos went to the town of Zacharo, in the southwestern Peloponnese, to revisit one of the most severely damaged areas.
As we read in patrisnews, Psaropoulos devotes much of his story coverage to the collecting of olives and olive oil production, talking with producers while highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of the area.
The residents of Zacharo were given the chance to appreciate the virtue of hard work and the fact that prosperity demands unity as well.
