Greece Mandolin OrchestraThe 414 players at the Sept. 5 Cretan Mandolin Festival were given a Guinness World Record on Dec. 31, the last given for the year, almost four months after they gathered in Heraklion to make music together.
According to the statement of the Organization’s representatives, the goal was achieved and Crete is now part of the Guinness Book of Records, having the biggest mandolin orchestra of 414 entries.
The initiator of the effort, Michael Marakomichelakis, said in a statement: “Congratulations! We can now be proud of having the world’s’ biggest mandolin orchestra in the island of Crete and even more so, thanks to your participation we created a new institution in Crete, the Cretan Mandolin Festival.” At least they weren’t being strung along.
