Cretan Exports Show Sharp Rise

exportsThe Exporters Association of Crete said there was a 14.62% increase in exports in the first 10 months of 2012, bringing in 323,538,357 euros ($423 million.) ELSTAT, the Hellenic Statistical Authority noted the jump in interest in Cretan products abroad, especially with an increase in the popularity of the Mediterranean and Cretan diets for health.
The industrial sector represented the largest increase , with 50.42%. Food and Beverages industry came second with the rate of 40%, though, based on past statistical data, the numbers are expected to change.
In the Food and Beverages sector, the category Meat-Fish-Seafood and related products did especially well, showing a jump of 58.35 percent, followed by wine and the alcoholic beverages, with a 33.76% increase, as well as fruits and vegetables, which went up 8.4 percent.
