National Action Plan: Create 62,000 Jobs

JobsA National Action Plan on the employment of young people being prepared by Greek officials has set a goal of creating 62,000 jobs, a challenging task when the country’s jobless rate has hit a record 26.8 percent and is expected to keep going up for perhaps another two years.
The plan is being coordinated by Minister of Labour, Social Security and Welfare Yiannis Vroutsis; Minister of Development, Competitiveness, Infrastructure, Transport and Networks Kostis Hatzidakis; and Minister of Education, Religious Affairs, Culture and Sports, Konstantinos Arvanitopoulos.
The plan incorporates actions of the Operational Programmes of the ESPA, aimed exclusively at young people. These programs are funded by both the European Social Fund (ESF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF.) The unemployment rate for those under 25 is more than 55 percent.
The programs included in the plan have to do with young people’s entry into the labor market, supporting youth entrepreneurship and in rural areas, as well as some actions of social care and social work in sector of culture.
The project is targeting young unemployed people up to 35 years old, including training and five-month work experience. Businesses will be obliged to employ these people for one year by the end of the program.
