Greek Crisis Drives Albanian Exodus Home

Among other reasons, Greece’s unrelenting economic crisis that’s made scores of thousands of Greeks fleeing to other countries in search of work and a better life has also prompted some 180,000 Albanians, or about 20 percent of the Albanian population in Greece, to return to their homeland between 2007-2012.

The numbers were shown in a report by the Tirana branch of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)according to media reports. The Tirana daily Shekulli wrote that Albanian authorities are concerned about the strain the wave of returnees may have on the struggling country’s welfare system, and particularly on education and healthcare – two sectors in which the government has been trying to limit costs.

The report suggests that the influx of returning migrants “may turn into a social bomb,” though it concedes that in the long term it may bring multiple benefits to the property market, consumption and investments, among other areas of the economy.

According to Shekulli, USAID reported that of the around 180,000 guest workers who returned to Albania from Greece in the past five years, only 5 percent have registered for social security benefits, though it adds that the low number may be attributed to the fact that many are not informed about their social welfare rights in Albania.

If 180 000 Albanians only represents 20% of the total number in Greece then there must be alot of Albanians still in Greece. My maths says close to 1million. Would they be legal or illegal?
On top of that they estimate about half a million to 1 million illegal immigrants also live in Greece.
How does anyone expect Greece to cope? The country must be suffocating.

We need to step it up and get more of them out of this country!

Why bother showing this article on the internet if they won’t let your read it due to a sidebar ad on the rigtht of the screen which keeps appearing with apaprently no way to get rid of it?

The have no interest in helping Greeks.   Even the alleged “human rights” NGOs are now colluding with the Skopians in trying to ethnically exterminate Greek to hide their embarassment for calling the former Yugoslavians “Macedonians”.

The US has to start shipping black people back to Africa!

This is excellent news. May the exodus of these ILLEGAL Albanian immigrants continue. In the next 2 or 3 years Golden Dawn will be the ruling party in Greece, & then whatever ILLEGAL Albanian immigrants are still left in Greece, will leave en-masse of their own free will, knowing that under a Golden Dawn government, ILLEGAL immigrants have no future in Greece. Furthermore Golden Dawn has promised to immediately revoke the citizenship granted by to numerous illegal immigrants & their children under an amnesty organized by the notoriously corrupt PASOK political party. The path will then be open to deport these illegal immigrants as well.

  • Sokratresuk27

Yes thanks god they leaving from that gay and gypsy country

It’s great to hear that the Albanians are leaving Greece.  Now they will bring their money and skills to Albania for investment, which will further propel the Albanian economy.

In the next twenty years, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Greeks start immigrating to Albania for work and business opportunities.

  • Mitsos G.

Its great hearing this…..but the one thing you do not know is that they have always been moving their money to Albania…nothing new.  As for taking their “SKILLS” they will start robbing, raping, stealing in Albania, and crime in Greece will decrease.

Greeks wouldn’t immigrate to Albania because its people are mostly uneducated and nothing there would be challenging. The only thing wrong with Greece is their politicians and corruption.  Greek people have a high educational background and where ever they have gone throughout the world, they have a good name.

As for Albanians, where ever they have gone, they are known as thieves, uneducated etc.

ALL ALBANIANS NEED TO LEAVE, and take the PAKIs with you!

  • Bobby V.

If they didn’t like the gays and gypsies so much, why did they come here in the first place??hmm?????

  • Midget

They came to Greece because of the gays and gypsies and now they are taking them back with them…..thank you Albanians!

  • Hank

EXCELLENT NEWS!!! FINALLY THERE WILL BE A REDUCTION IN CRIMES….
TO THE ALBANIANS, DON’T LET THE DOOR HIT YOU ON THE ASS ON YOUR WAY OUT!!!

  • AMB

    Since the Albanians have
no skills, it must have been all of the Greeks that built Athens for the 2004 Olympics…not
    likely.

Albanians are known for hard work, honesty, and integrity.  If they were
all thieves, like you suggest, then Albania would have the highest crime rate
in the world.  This obviously isn’t true.

I think the larger problem is with the Greeks themselves.  They’re used to
a life of entitlement.  They don’t want to work hard and that’s why they
have been embarrassed in front of the whole world during the financial crisis.
They’re true colors have come on full display.

Just a sidebar, the only reason why Greece was allowed into the Euro is because
the Greeks “cooked their books”.  If that’s not the epitome of
cheating and lying, I don’t know what is.

    One last note, if Greeks
don’t want to immigrate to Albania, then why are there so many Greeks already
in Albania working and seeking work?  There are no jobs in Greece and a
Greek citizen will be grateful for a job in Albania.  I just hope that
Albania treats these migrant workers better than Greece has treated their
    migrant workers.

  • Bobby V.

It is your opinion that Albanians are hard workers……The reason that Albania doesn’t have the highest crime rate is because their criminals are scattered around Europe….Italy has problems with them, Greece has problems with them and many more countries have problems with them.

The problem with Greece isn’t the people, it is the politicians that are corrupt.  Greeks are very hard working and that has been proven around the world.  Every time you hear about Albanians you hear about how lazy they are.  I have hired Albanians in my businesses in the US and have fired them after a few weeks because they were always trying to get around actually working.   The Greeks that I have hired have been the foundation of my businesses and are very trustworthy.  But seeing that you are brainwashed from the international media it is understandable why you have this opinion.

Greeks didn’t cook their books alone.  Germany and France helped.  They needed Greece in the Euro because Greece is a major purchaser of Military jets, tanks, equip. etc from these two countries.

As for Greeks going to Albania for work….if you read another article from the Greek reporter you will see that 4000 doctors have emigrated from Greece…..NONE TO ALBANIA!   So the only Greeks seeking work in Albania are low level workers & employees from Greek companies that have expanded into Albania.  You ask why they would expand there….because it is a cheap country and they can do what they want there.  They aren’t going to put Albanians in the high level positions.

The funniest part of what you are saying is readying that Albanians have integrity….very funny!!!!!

  • Lakis P.

If you go to countries across Europe, USA, Australia, anywhere in the world and ask them if they would rather have Greeks or Albanians, there will be no one that wants Albanians!  Where ever Greeks have gone they have built the best reputations!  Albanians are not known for anything but stealing and crime!

Low level workers will probably go to Albania because there are many low level jobs in Albania, but unfortunately higher educated people are leaving Greece at the moment….and trust me, none are going to Albania.

Greece will come along at some point!  That is what we are known for, always pulling through in the end!
