Fewer Illegal Immigrants Cross The Evros

evros_metanastesAn ongoing government sweep to round up illegal immigrants, Operation Xenios Zeus, has also deterred them from trying to enter Greece across the Evros River on the Turkish border, Greek police said.

The influx in the region has been reduced significantly with police patrols as well as a new fence along the border. Based on data from arrests, the number of illegal immigrants trying to enter the area has been cut 95 percent.

Officials though said they believe immigrants may be choosing other routes, such as the many islands not far from Turkey although a number of them have died in boat capsizings.

Xenios Zeus – an ironic code name that means “hospitality” – has been underway since Aug. 2, 2012 in the area of Evros and in central parts of the city of Athens. The operation’s objectives are pushing back illegal immigrants from Evros and sealing of the borders, and deporting illegal immigrants.

The other goals, officials said, include ensuring the rule of law and protecting quality of life in Athens, to the benefit of both inhabitants and visitors of the country’s capital. In this context, the aim of the operations is to suppress illegal activities, including illegal trade, prostitution, drug trafficking, and organized crime.

So build this fence has proven to be useful … contrary to what the EU officials said.

  • Hank

I hope someday they will also built a fence between the Greece-Albanian border and electrify it. Keep all the thugs and criminals of Albania out off Greece…

All the cheap “human rights” advice on the matter by
the anti-hellenic twits at Amnesty International and communist Syriza was also WRONG.  They
claiming doing these things would do achieve nothing.

    We
can’t stop here though. We have to continue to implement measures to
both discourage illegals from coming and kick out the ones here. (using force if necessary but trying to keep it a minimum and through proper government channels rather than street paramilitary). IMO we should also focus on ejecting any leaders of organization for illegals groups in Greece. If any foreign based NGO official interferes with our sovereignty rights by helping illegals, we should also consideer ejecting them out of the country too, (given they dishonestly pretend not to notice the Skopians they clearly have prejudices against Greeks)

Now that the land border is secured, we have to come up with an ingenious and humane way of securing the maritime border with Turkey. It has to be done.

  • Alex

There are advanced radar systems but the problem is even if you stop them at sea what do you do with them?

IMO the best solution is a swift deportation process. if they know they are going to be deported as soon as they get into the country, most of them aren’t going to come in the first place. We have to stop listening to these unelected foreign NGOs lecturing us about our immigration policy. If there is some international agreement we are in dealing with refugees, we should put out of it. (seeing as the spirit of it is being abused by foreigners who seem to have translated an occasional refugee with being a synonym for an invasion)

  • leventi

Swift deprtation does not work if the country they are arriving from (in this case our good neighbour Turkey) is not helpful in taking them back It will result in a game of ping pong.
We have to come up with a smart way of blocking their entry. A sea wall.

  • Adde

We can also regroup them near the turkish border and make sure life is hard for them and actively help thoses who want it to trespass them back to Turkey.
Also the governement can drop many of the illegals to Fyrom.

  • Adde

You are totally right but kicking illegals will be difficult because before entering the country they often destroy their papers so it’s difficult to know to which country they can be sent back.
As for the illegals immigrants who try to lands on our islands, the governement has to find a way to make sure they can’t land on it.
For the rest, we may regroup the illegals in provinces bordering Turkey and offer to smuggle them back here for free and we can also drop them near Albania or Fyrom and say to them that they have to go through theses 2 countries to go to the others EU countries.

  • kita

Why should illegals come via Evros? They would come via Athens when they get sent back home by the 500 nations to free america of the white race

  • Alex

There is no way to completely block illegals from coming from the aegean. There are just too much water and and not enough resources.

They can be deportated to their home country too. We can also offer to deport them to the countries of the patronzing  self-righteous leftist foreign based NGOs that rant at us for not accepting them. (despite their own countries having far far less illegals than Greece per capita and yet still they deport illegals).

  • Alex Prime Minister of Greece

Not only did the fence work….but putting your mom there, with her legs open so they can smell the stench of fish helped!

  • Alex

Still trolling me Skopian? Keep creating handles buddy. The more you attack me, the more Greeks will become aware they are being trolled.

  • Alex

FYI –  Alex Prime Minister of Greece, Alex2, alex mom, Bobby B, K.Mistos, world domination, all appear to be the same person changing handles. (possibly also Timon-of-Athens, Voice-of-Raisin, a few more I’m suspicious about, and likely  many more I am not aware about)At this juncture (because he keeps changing politics along with his handles while obsessively attacking me… one of the chief critics of Skopians on this website)….  I have to assume he’s a skopian false flag (that happens to speak a little Greek)

  • Alex

This is a good idea. It should be done unofficially though. It would be fun to watch the reaction of the “human rights” activists of FYROM that “support minorities”… as they are flooded with illegals. Also fun would be to watch their apologists that treat these trolls as “victims” reactions when they discover they were being played by crypto Nazis.

  • Cypriot

Shoot the driver of the boat. Get to the root of the problem – if you scare them they won’t risk bringing in illegals.

  • Alex Prime Minister of Greece

The funny thing is that I left the website yesterday, and today you leave 50 emails….what else do you do with your time?

if greece wants to stop illegal immigration….leave the schengen area and eurozone …the only pull factors that are making these foreignors come is the hope of being able to move on to richer northern european countries..most come from pakistan, which to my knowledge has no war going on and cant be considered refugees ..most are economic immigrants led to greece by a criminal organization in pakistan with the hopes of islamifying europe (wikileaks)..for the ones in greece…get them on a boat and send them to the countries that critisize greeces migrant problem..and let those countries handle them

  • Nick Ant

A good solution is to board them in ships and send them to Somalia .

  • Nick Ant

board them to ships and send them to somalia . Noone will ever hear them again .

The US should follow the reasonable path of enforcement – not rewards for immigration crime.
