Health officials said that a flu strain sweeping the United States has reached Greece and that at least four people have died. The Hellenic Center for Disease Control and Prevention (KEELPNO) also said that 17 people have been hospitalized.
Officials said at least half were infected by the influenza virus epidemic, a high percentage, and that the strain is different from other viruses that have affected Greeks.
Scientists drew their attention to so-called high-risk groups, for example the elderly and children who are suffering from respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic and other chronic serious illness.
Flu symptoms can include fever, cough, runny nose, body ache and fatigue. Severe cases could see vomiting and diarrhea or develop into pneumonia. Many cases are much milder.
