Alexanderland Theme Park in Thessaloniki

alexanderlandWith tension still high with the neighboring Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) for trying to claim Alexander the Great as its own, Thessaloniki has responded with a theme park called Alexanderland to present his life and work.
It is being done under the initiative of the Departmental Direction. The project targets the tourist and cultural development of Thessaloniki. According to the Departmental Director George Tsamaslis, visitors of the park will see step-by-step the life of the Macedonian king, from his birth, childhood, education and training until his campaigns to conquer the world.
The park is expected to encompass 300 acres, he said,  and officials are looking at three prospective sites. The study for the park is under the responsibility of Aristotle University, and Tsamaslis said that there will be an international invitation to investors who are interested.
He said also included will be a green corridor around the perimeter of the eastern urban area with the regeneration of the bed and slopes. The project also includes cycle lanes, pedestrian areas, sport and environmental education areas. He also added that the Department of Thessaloniki is planning the creation of the National Park of Koroneia and Volvi lakes as well as the Macedonian Tempi.
