Albania-Greece Intercity Bus Protest

Albania_Greece_Bus Albanian long-distance intercity buses have been gathering in Kakavia at theĀ Greek border to protest Greece’s decision to stop their operations in a number of municipalities.
The Albanians were outraged after the application of a law which states that iternational regular bus lines can now have as a starting point only Athens and Thessaloniki.
According to that, bus lines to be reserved are only Tirana-Athens (via Krystallopigi and Kakavia) and Tirana – Thessaloniki (only via Kakavia). After reactions, the Ministry of Transport stated that it would allow a connection between Thessaloniki and Tirana via Krystallopigi.
Speaking to the Greek news agency ANA – MPA, the President of the Intercity Buses of Ioannina, Gregory Gikas, said that since every village in Albania is connected to Athens, this resulted to the replacement of Greek buses (KTEL.) He added that 150 buses pass daily just from Kakavia heading to Athens and that there are bus lines from Athens to Ioannina and Arta from Albania.
He also complained over the governmentā€™s decision which allows Albanian inter-city buses to enter Greece without paying any taxes as Greek bus owners do. He said the Albanian companies are preferred by the many Albanian immigrants in Greece, hurting the business of Greek companies.
