Piraeus Port to Be Upgraded

pireasSafety issues and matters of better services to cruise passengers were discussed in a meeting at the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) in view of the summer season, which for most companies begins on March 15.
OLP announced that there will be an aesthetic upgrade of the platforms such as labeling information, different color sections per destination and the planting of greenery among others.
From the Piraeus port 15 million passengers are transferred annually, 2.1 million of whom are cruise tourists. Through its development program, OLP targets at the cultural and tourist upgrade of the leading port of the country, with a focus on the balanced coupling between the port and the city.
The meeting, apart from the chairman and OLP’s Executive Director, George Anomeritis, who gave the leading speech, was attended by the lead harbormaster of Piraeus, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Piraeus, representatives of the municipality and cruise associations, police, traffic police, customs officers and taxi drivers.
More than 710 cruise ships are expected to reach the port of Piraeus this year. Piraeus of 2013 will have 11 cruise dock venues while the expansion of the cruise port has been already included in the ESPA project for six new generation docking venues, longer than 300 meters.
