Grigoropoulos' Murderer Still Being Paid

alexis1_533_355Epaminondas Korkoneas, the policeman who was sentenced to life imprisonment for killing 15- year-old schoolboy, Alexandros Grigoropoulos in 2008 in the Athens neighborhood of Exarchia, is still receiving his salary from the Greek state.
According to “Ethnos tis Kiriakis” newspaper, although the Disciplinary Board has convened five times, Korkoneas’ lawyer relies on inability to attend, which results in continuous postponements of the Board’s decision.
Even today, four years after Grigoropoulos’ murder- Korkoneas is still registered in the lists of the Greek Police personnel and receives a good 30% of his salary. According to the report, the same applies to his patrol partner,Vassilios Saraliotis, who was given a 10-year jail sentence for complicity.
According to officials of the Ministry of Public Order, Nikos Dendias is furious at the case and is determined to “stop the absurdity.” The next meeting of the Disciplinary Board, is scheduled on March 19.
