Cypriot Granny Beats Bank Tax

giagiaka600x250Two weeks ago the employees of a bank in Cyprus were making fun of an old lady who was afraid for her deposits and now they regret not following her example.
Every Friday for the last month, a retired Pontic grandmother would go to the branch of the Hellenic Bank in Paphos and withdraw the 10,000 euros she had in her account only to deposit them again on Monday.
Did she suspect the coming “haircut”?
Two weeks ago, the bank staff could not resist and asked her why she was doing this. The old lady’s response made them laugh. She told them: “My son is an economist in Russia and told me that if something goes wrong with the banks, it will happen during the weekend. So he advised me to take my money home every Friday”.
Last Friday the old lady did the same as usual. She went to the bank and withdrew all her money, following her son’s advice faithfully.
This way she finally kept her money safe from a “haircut”.
