On February 24, Panayotis Vlastos, who was detained in the prison of Trikala, tried to escape for the fourth time. During his attempt, he was shot in the leg and the helicopter passengers were forced to land in the prison parking lot.
On March 22, strangers on a van started shooting at the guards outside the prison. At least two of them left the van, approached the prison and begun shooting at the prison officers probably with kalashnikovs.
According to latest information, the officers were reportedly not injured. It is also not known yet whether the prison officers shot back.
Police said they believe that the attack was in retaliation for Vlastos failed attempt to escape and was organized by his accomplices.
